8th Grade Recognitiongraduation

259 8th grade students attended their recognition day on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. in Spartan Hall. Students received varies awards and medals. On behalf of the 8th grade class, FBLA members presented Dr. Hudson with a basket to thank her for being a great principal.

The Introduction to Information Technology and Web Design students attended the IT seminar at Nortwest Florida State College on Friday, May 27. The students learned at this interactive seminar about how the future will impact technology and what they can do right now to make sure they are ready for real world jobs.

Congratulations to the "Around the World in 60 Minutes" winners. First Place - Lyndsey LaBorde- France, 2nd Place Madison Carlstrom- Italy, and 3rd Place Amber Lett - India.

On Tuesday, May 25, 2016 Mrs. Cook’s 8th grade web design students presented their websites to a packed audience.  The websites were created about their ethnicity and the 8th grade web design students took the audience on a virtual tour.  The students could not use any ready-made templates, copyright laws were followed, and they had to dress up in ethnic wear. Light hors d’oeuvres were served at the end of the presentation from each ethnicity. Students Receive A Scholarship

Bruner Middle School is an A+ school once again. Dr. Hudson receives the A+ Award from Superintendant Jackson. Dr. Hudson and Superintendant Jackson thanked the students and teachers for their hardwork, and encouraged the students to do their best on the upcoming FSA test.

Regional Science Fair Winner " Brenna Vass"brenna vass

The East Panhandle Regional Science and Engineering Fair was held on Feb 16, 2016.  There were 183 middle and high school students who participated from the tri-county area (Santa Rosa, Okaloosa and Walton counties).  Brenna Vass (8th grade) was our only student to participate this year.  Her project titled “Is There a Difference in Male and Female Paw Preference?”, in which she tested 50 cats (25 male and 25 female) from local shelters for paw dominance, received recognition last night for her rigorous application of scientific methods and careful data collection and analysis.  She won “Best Project Relating to Veterinary Medicine” (Junior Division),  “Honorable Mention in Animal Sciences” (Middle School Division) and $100 from the Miracle Strip Veterinary Medical Society.

The Okaloosa County School District is celebrating a "Century of Success." The district office and each school celebrated today by raising a flag that was raised mr  suttonover our nation’s capitol in honor of Okaloosa’s 100 year Celebration. Bruner Middle School celebrated by having Mr. Sutton and some of the students participated in raising the flag today, Monday, Feb 1, 2016.

Builders Club Visits The Children's Center Daycarebuilders club

Members of the Builder's club visited The Children's Center to read to the students. Each Bruner student took the community service project -of reading and asking the little ones interactive questions- seriously but did so with mature confidence.  The little ones loved the smiles, the stories, the stickers, and the conversations with our BMS students. "I think the big kids had a good time also" said Ashley Brown, Builder's Club Sponsor. "It was a joy to see a room full of happy faces and lively reading and “student talk.”  Students are never too young to start." says "Lisa Homer, Builder's Club Spsonor.

Bruner Middle School celebrated diversity Friday night,dance studentsJanuary 22 by hosting the multicustudents multiltural festival featuring heritage dances, a diversity speech, food and other activities. Students and teachers performed heritage dances at the festival. Many guest had ethnic tables set-up.

Madison Snowden Scores a Perfect Score








Congratulations to Madison Snowden for scoring a perfect score (1000) on her National MOS PowerPoint Exam. She completed this rigorous test in 20 minutes. She qualifies for the 2016 Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship. This is a global competition that tests students' skills on Microsoft 2013. Top students are invited to represent their respective countries at the World Championship in Orlando, FL on August 7 -10, 2016. For more information about the MOS World Championship click HERE.

108 technology students participated in computer science week (December 7 -13, 2015) "The Hour of Code". The Hour of Code is a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basic. Students used blockly to code "Elsa Skating on Ice". Every student should have the opportunity to learn computer science. It helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity.

Bruner Middle School football players with Coach Vinson celebrate their championship win, Thursday, October 26.

John B. Johnston Sports Complex

Thursday, October 26, the day of the football county championship, Bruner Middle School had a dedication ceremony in Spartan Hall, in honor of Mr. Johnny Johnston, Bruner’s principal from 1974 – 1994, to name the weight room the John B. Johnston Sports Complex.  Large white letters where installed on the outside back wall of the weight room and a framed plaque with Mr. Johnston's picture is hanging inside the weight room.  Mr. Johnston was responsible for having the field house built after the old field house had been condemned and torn down.  He also was a weight-lifter and football player.

Mr. Johnston's wife, Mrs. Anne Johnston, who was the curriculum coordinator at Choctaw and Dr. Cynthia Hudson, current principal of Bruner Middle School, cut the ribbon to dedicate and official open the “John B. Johnston Sports Complex”. Many guests and retirees attended the ceremony and dedication.

The Spartan's athletic department held a fundraiser "Pie In Your Face" to help with athletic supplies and upgrades. The fundraiser was a success and a lot of fun. Faculty vs Student to see who would get a pie in the face.

Robotic Students Present Water Crisis To City


Bruner's robotic students presented their First Lego League project about water crisis to the City of Fort Waltonpresenting1 Beach engineers and administrators. The students suggested using salt water and preserving our fresh water. The students presented in three phases. 1. The PowerPoint presentation about the water crisis and the solution, 2. The core values, how they were able to complete the project as a whole class, 3. presenting3The programming and engineering of the robot to perform the necessary task for the water crisis solutions for the robotic games. The response for their presentation was great, many suggestions were given. The students learned a lot about how the water is treated in Fort Walton Beach.
