CRITERIA
1. Student must have current Parent Permission/Physical form before try-outs.
2. Student must have a 2.0 GPA

EVALUATION
Student will be ranked during try-outs on the below rating scale:

1-Needs improvement
2-Below Average
3-Average
4-Above Average
5-Outstanding

Categories to be ranked:
  • Ball handling
  • Defense
  • Quickness
  • Shooting
  • Passing
  • Size

    Intangibles: hustle, instincts, experience, unselfishness, leadership, attitude, coach ability (able to listen and receive instructions. +5 to -5)

    RULES & REGULATIONS

    1. The Okaloosa County Middle School Basketball program will play under the rules governed by the National Federation Edition Basketball Rule Book, the Okaloosa County Middle School Conference rules and FHSAA bylaws.
    2. Each school will be responsible for 2 registered officials. The clock operator must be an adult. Copies of contracts for officials should be submitted to the district office.
    3. The starting time for regular season basketball is 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. The quarters will be seven (7) minutes with a ten (10) minute half. There will be 15 minutes for warm-up.
    4. Winning schools will be responsible for calling in game results to the newspaper.
    5. The admission will be $3.00.
    6. No pep bands or signs allowed in the gym.
    7. Only conference plates (plaque) will be awarded to boys and girls winner for conference play. Tournament awards will be awarded to champions and runner-up.
    8. For the end of the season tournament the higher seeded teams from each bracket will host the games for that bracket.
    9. Awards for all conference will consist of 4-3-2-2-1-1-1-1-1-1 for the girls’ and the boys’ teams.
    10. The conference team will be presented at the finals of the conference tournament. The team will consist of 16 boys and 16 girls, to be turned in at the tournament seeding meeting, date, time and location to be determined????.
    11. Check with individual coaches regarding the color of jersey. The recommendation from the National federation is for the home team to wear light-colored uniforms and the visiting team wear dark. Please follow these recommendations unless there is a problem with jersey color.
    12. Scoring: Adopted 3 point field goal. Section 2: Article 2 a successful try from the field by a player who is located behind the 19 foot 9 inch line counts 3 points.
    13. The small ball is the official ball for girls and boys.
    14. Cheerleaders shall be prohibited from building pyramids higher than 2 tiers. Cheerleaders should remain IN their seats along the sidelines at all times when the ball is alive. The host school principal or athletic director shall be responsible for compliance during the regular season games. First offense - warning. Second offense - technical foul against the violating school.
    15. If any changes need to be made for starting time, arrangements will be made by the two schools involved. Please notify the Commissioner and the referees.
    16. Each team will be responsible for providing a minimum of six (6) warm-up balls for the visiting team.
    17. Remember to display the American Flag and play/sing the National Anthem.

    BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT FORMAT

    The higher seeded teams from each bracket will host the games for each bracket. In the event that both the boys’ and girls’ teams from the same school are to host their games, there must be sufficient amount of time to clear the gym and collect the admission for the second game of the evening. The boys’ and the girls’ tournaments are to be considered two totally different tournaments.
