Max Bruner Jr.
Our school is named after widely-recognized educational leader, Max Bruner, Jr. Mr. Bruner was a high school coach and teacher in Alabama before moving to Okaloosa County in 1957, where he served as both an assistant principal and as a principal. In 1964, he was elected Superintendent of Schools. He served in that capacity for five consecutive four-year terms, retiring in 1985.
He became a highly respected member of the educational setting state-wide, taking an active part in legislative efforts to better Florida schools. He was voted Outstanding Young Man of the Year for 1965 by the Fort Walton Beach Jaycees. After retirement from the school district, he turned his attention to business and served as a model for those around him.
